Product Overview

The Mepro Tru-Vision sight stands out with its advanced features, ergonomic and lightweight design, weighing approximately 280 grams. This electro-optical mil-spec red dot sight is built to be shockproof, waterproof, and exceptionally durable.

Designed to meet the needs of the modern market, the Mepro Tru-Vision features a short-length, compact, and lightweight construction, making it ideal for co-mounting multiple tactical devices such as magnifiers and laser pointers on your Picatinny rail. It is fully compatible with the Mepro MMX4 magnifier and other popular models. This sight is energy-efficient, offering thousands of operating hours from a single CR123 standard battery.

One awesome features is the automatic brightness control system, which ensures clear visibility of the red dot in any lighting condition. For those who prefer manual control, the sight provides 16 brightness settings (12 daytime and 4 nighttime (NVG/NOD).

The Mepro Tru-Vision boasts a large non-reflective display window (1.14″ x 0.78″) and a clearly defined 2 MOA red dot reticle. Additional features include an integrated sleep mode that activates after 30 minutes of no movement or button press, and an automatic power-off mode selectable between 4 or 8 hours of inactivity. The sight is equipped with a low battery indicator and a light sensor. The Mepro Tru-Vision comes with a black hood, with replacement kits available in ODG and Desert Tan on the Meprolight web store. We’ve included the desert tan hood in this review for our build.

Unboxing Section

The Mepro Tru-Vision comes in a sleek, branded box that immediately sets the tone for quality and attention to detail. The box itself is wrapped in a protective sleeve featuring the Meprolight logo. Once you remove the sleeve and open the box, you’re met with the optic mounted on a plastic pedestal with a Picatinny rail. First time I’ve seen this and I LOVE it. This setup not only highlights the product but also emphasizes Meprolight’s commitment to providing a top tier unboxing experience.

Inside the box:

  • Owner’s manual: to guide you through setup and use.
  • Tru-Vision: mounted on a sick pedestal with a Picatinny rail.
  • Optic sock/cover: to keep your sight protected when not in use.
  • Optic wrench: for easy adjustments.
  • Soft bristle brush and cleaning cloth: to maintain your sight’s clarity.
  • Battery: to power up your sight right out of the box.

Design and Build Quality

First impressions of the Mepro Tru-Vision are definitely positive. The sight is lightweight, with most of the weight concentrated in the center of the optic. This balance is achieved through the use of a metal skeleton and internals covered by an interchangeable plastic hood, which significantly reduces weight without compromising the durability. The buttons feel high-quality with very slight audible response. The quick-connect clamp offers a firm and secure attachment to a picatinny rail.

The battery cover and housing are made of aluminum, ensuring durability and protection. The sight’s design uses a clean, plastic hood/armour to conceal the robust metal internals, similar to modern car engines that use plastic covers to keep things looking clean. The hood itself comes off a bit plain jane to me, maybe could use a brand logo similar to the MMX4. Just something small, subtle and clean while adding a bit of brand identity. Overall I do love the look and shape of this optic.

Even before mounting it, the Tru-Vision impressed me with its clear glass and the fact that it doesn’t reflect light. The clarity and anti-reflective properties are crucial for some when choosing an optic and always something to consider. Additionally, I swapped the black cover for the desert tab one to match my “50 Shades of FDE” build, and it looks too GOOD. The design and build quality of the Mepro Tru-Vision are top-notch, and I can’t wait to see how it performs in the field.

Features and Technology

The Mepro Tru-Vision is packed with advanced features and cutting-edge technology that sets it apart from other sights on the market. Here’s a detailed look at what makes this optic a top contender for your next Red-Dot:

  • Design: The Tru-Vision is built to military specifications, ensuring it’s shockproof, waterproof, and extremely durable. Its compact and lightweight design (approximately 280 grams) makes it ideal for pairing with multiple tactical devices on your Picatinny rail.
  • Energy Efficiency: This sight is designed for extended use, providing thousands of operating hours from a single CR123 battery. It features an automatic power-off mode and a sleep mode that activates after 30 minutes of inactivity, conserving battery life.
  • Brightness Control: The Tru-Vision includes an automatic brightness control system with a built-in light sensor that adjusts the reticle brightness according to the ambient light conditions. Additionally, it offers 16 manual brightness settings (12 for daytime and 4 for nighttime/NVG), allowing for precise control in any environment.
  • Sight Picture: The large, non-reflective display window (25x20mm) ensures a clear and wide field of view.
  • Reticle and Adjustments: The sight has a 2 MOA red dot reticle and features windage and elevation adjustments with 0.5 MOA per click.
  • Compatibility: It is compatible with magnifiers such as the Mepro MMX4, enhancing its versatility for engaging targets at various distances. The sight also supports night vision devices, making it suitable for a wide range of tactical applications.
  • Build Quality: The Tru-Vision has a robust metal skeleton covered by a clean, plastic hood. This combination ensures durability while maintaining a sleek appearance. Key components like the battery cover and housing are made of high-quality metal, ensuring the sight’s longevity.

Installation and Zeroing

Before installing I wanted to swap the black hood out for the desert tan to match my build. The hood is easily swapped out by removing the battery cover and batter then using the optic wrench remove 4 torx screws and the hood slides right off. To install just reverse that process making sure not to overtighten the torx screw which can easily be stripped out.

Installing the Mepro Tru-Vision is a straightforward process, largely thanks to its quick connect clamp. Begin by placing the sight on your firearm’s Picatinny rail. Then adjust the clamping force to your preference to ensure a secure fit, using the nut on the opposite side of the optic. Once set to your preference, just flip the clamp ensuring the sight is firmly attached with no wobble.

Zeroing the sight is equally user-friendly and precise. Start by turning on the sight and setting it to a medium brightness level for clear visibility of the reticle without glare. The Tru-Vision allows for windage and elevation adjustments with 0.5 MOA per click, which translates to approximately 0.5 inches of movement at 100 yards per click. I begin by placing my firearm on a stable rest and aiming at a target 25 yards away. Fired a few groupings and noted the point of impact of each. Then came to do a bit of math to test how accurate the clicks to claim are.

After making my initial adjustments, I rechecked at 25 yards and it was dead on. Finally, I verified zero at 100 yards. The adjustments were precise and moved the point of impact exactly as claimed. This precision is crucial for maintaining accuracy across various shooting scenarios and a good test to the true quality of an optic.

Performance and Accuracy

The moment I used the Mepro Tru-Vision, I fell in love with the sight picture and clarity of the optic. The glass is crystal clear, providing a pristine view with no glare whatsoever. The red dot is bright and easy to see, making target acquisition quick and effortless. I tested the sight in various lighting conditions, and the automatic brightness adjustment feature worked flawlessly, keeping the dot at the perfect brightness level for any environment. This automatic adjustment eliminates the hassle of manual tweaking and ensures optimal visibility at all times.

After zeroing the optic and running it through a few hundred rounds, the Tru-Vision maintained its zero perfectly. There were no flickers or malfunctions from the sight, demonstrating its reliability and robustness. The quick connect clamp is an awesome feature, offering a secure and firm attachment that remained solid throughout my testing. Not once did the sight come loose, and the clamp never popped off. The construction of the sight ensures that all critical components are protected and durable, contributing to its overall ruggedness. Even after shocking it with a few drops, letting the rifle tip over and bumping the sight into the tree next to me… By accident of course, it never affected the performance or zero of the red-dot.

I paired the Tru-Vision with the MMX4 magnifier, and this combination proved to be a match made in heaven. The magnifier enhanced the sight’s versatility, allowing for seamless transitions between close-quarters and mid-range engagements. The clarity of the MMX4 complemented the Tru-Vision perfectly, providing an amazing shooting experience. For a full review of the MMX4, click here (Coming Soon). While I haven’t yet tested the night vision capabilities, my experience so far gives me confidence that it will perform exceptionally well as long as it lives up to the rest of the sights’ performance. This has quickly climbed to the top of my favorite red dot sights list.

Overall Ranking

The Mepro Tru-Vision has impressed me in several key areas. Here’s a breakdown of how I scored it across different categories:

Reliability: 5/5 The Tru-Vision has proven to be exceptionally reliable. After zeroing the optic and firing a few hundred rounds and giving it some abuse, it maintained its zero without any flickers or malfunctions. The quick connect clamp held firm, ensuring the sight stayed securely in place.

Sight Picture: 5/5 The sight window is crystal clear, providing a pristine view with no glare. The large display window allows for easy target acquisition, and the automatic brightness adjustment keeps the dot at the perfect setting for any lighting condition.

Appearance: 4.2/5 I love the shape and versatility of the covers, which is easily changed. The design is clean and simple, though I do find hood a bit bland.

Ergonomics: 4.5/5 The sight is lightweight and well-balanced, with most of the weight centered in the optic. The buttons are intuitive and responsive, and the quick connect clamp offers a firm, secure attachment. The design ensures ease of use and quick adjustments in the field. All while keeping the optics bulk down to aid in maneuverability.

Value: 4/5 Coming in at MSRP $550 (or $499 at Optics Planet), it can be seen as being on the higher end of the price spectrum for red dot sights. However, in my opinion, you are definitely getting a high-quality red dot and your money’s worth. The quality and performance justify the price, making it a solid investment for serious shooters and one I can confidently recommend.

Overall: 4.5/5
