Holosun AEMS Overview
The Holosun AEMS Red, or Advanced Enclosed Micro Sight, impresses with its advanced features and lightweight build. This compact reflex sight doubles the lens surface of standard 20mm micro-style sights. It significantly boosts the field of view, enhancing target acquisition.
Constructed from tough 7075 aluminum, the AEMS-Red includes a 1.63” dot height for lower 1/3 co-witness on Picatinny rails. Its versatility makes it suitable for various shooting styles.
Key features include protective glass flip-down lens covers that maintain clear visibility. Holosun’s Multi-Reticle System (MRS) lets users toggle between a precise 2MOA dot and a 65MOA circle or a combination of both. Can be toggled by holding down the dim button.

The AEMS integrates Holosun’s Solar Failsafe technology, utilizing sunlight to extend battery life. And their Shake Awake technology activates the sight with motion.
A side-mounted battery tray holds a 2032 battery, supporting up to 50,000 hours of use. Holosun’s Red Super LED provides 12 intensity settings, including four for night vision.

Key Features and Technology of the Holosun AEMS
After unboxing and giving my first impression of the Holosun AEMS, its tactical design and features stand out. Here are some key technologies and benefits that make this red dot sight a top choice for any build:
- Optical Clarity: The AEMS features a multicoated lens that ensures a clear, bright view, crucial for both quick target acquisition and precision aiming. Unlike traditional tube-style sights, the AEMS utilizes a square window that provides a wider field of view, making it easier to track moving targets and maintain situational awareness.
- Solar Fail-Safe and Shake Awake Technology: These features ensure that the sight remains operational in diverse lighting conditions and conserves battery life by activating only when movement is detected.
- Durability and Lens Protection: The robust aluminum housing is both waterproof and shockproof, suitable for all shooting conditions. Additionally, the AEMS comes with protective lens covers that do not affect clarity or sight usability. These covers help protect the lens from scratches and impacts, and replacements are readily available should the original ones become damaged.
- Ease of Installation and User-Friendly Adjustments: The AEMS features a universal mounting system that fits most firearms easily. Adjustments for windage and elevation are straightforward, with each click adjusting the point of impact by 1/2 MOA. These tactile and audible clicks ensure precise and reliable adjustments.
- Multiple Reticle Options: The sight offers various reticle settings, allowing users to choose the best option for their specific shooting scenario, enhancing both comfort and accuracy. Can be toggled by holding down the dim button for a few seconds.
Installation and Zeroing
Installing the Holosun AEMS on my POF USA P415 upper was straightforward, thanks to the included Holosun wrench. I secured the mount to the Picatinny rail tightly. A standout feature of the mounting process is the notched screw. As you tighten it, the notches allow you to feel each click, locking the optic securely onto the rail. This design ensures the sight stays firmly in place, preventing any loosening over time.

I zeroed the AEMS at 50 yards. The adjustments claim to be 1/2 MOA per click. Using the same Holosun wrench, I found the adjustment knobs to be firm, with a satisfying click transmitted through the wrench, confirming each change.
To verify the accuracy of these adjustments, I did some calculations while zeroing. I was checking if the clicks were truly consistent with a 1/2 MOA adjustment. The results were spot on, confirming the sight’s reliable and accurate adjustment mechanism.
Performance and Experience
After several hundred rounds, the Holosun AEMS has proven its reliability. It maintains its zero exceptionally well, with no issues of drifting or misalignment. The optics remain clear, even with the lens covers flipped up, ensuring a consistently sharp view.
The red dot itself has performed flawlessly as there have been no flickers or interruptions. I’ve developed a preference for the 2MOA dot setting over the circle or the combination reticles. It provides the precision I need for accurate shooting.
Additionally, the AEMS has stayed securely mounted, with no loosening at the mounting position despite the recoil and regular use. While I haven’t tested the night vision capabilities of this optic yet, I’m looking forward to exploring this feature in the future and will definitely update on its performance.
Overall, the AEMS stands out for its robust performance and reliability, meeting all expectations for a high-quality red dot sight. Its has slowly been climbing to one of my favorite reflex sights…. which is why i’m giving one away! CLICK HERE TO ENTER! ENDS 5/31/24.
