• Variable Magnification: LPVOs feature a zoom range that lets users switch between low and high magnification settings. This adaptability is useful for both close-quarters engagements and longer-range shots (around 300-500 yds)
• Wide Field of View: At lower magnifications, LPVOs provide a wide field of view, helping shooters acquire targets quickly and track moving objects with ease.
• Durability and Versatility: Designed to handle a range of conditions, LPVOs are built to be rugged and reliable. Their versatility makes them suitable for hunting, tactical applications, and competitive shooting.

Unboxing Section

Opening the Swampfox Warhorse LPVO is an experience in itself, starting with its presentation. The optic arrives in a well-branded, high quality box that reflects Swampfox’s attention to detail. Inside, the Warhorse LPVO is securely nestled in foam padding.

Here’s what you’ll find in the box:

Features and Technology

Short & Compact 34mm Tube

The Warhorse LPVO features a 34mm tube, providing a robust and sturdy design while remaining relatively compact. This larger tube diameter enhances structural integrity and adjustability compared to the standard 30mm tubes.

Durable 6061 Aluminum Construction

Crafted from 6061 aluminum, the Warhorse LPVO offers exceptional durability and resistance to wear. This high-quality material ensures that the optic can withstand rugged use while maintaining its reliability and performance.

Illuminated Glass Etched First Focal Plane (FFP) Reticle

The optic is equipped with an illuminated, glass-etched FFP reticle, which scales with magnification. This feature ensures accurate ranging and holdovers at any zoom level, providing precise aiming capabilities.

12 Brightness Settings

With 12 brightness settings, including two night vision (NV) compatible levels, the illuminated reticle can be adjusted to suit various lighting conditions. The incremental on/off feature allows for fine-tuning of illumination levels.

Sight Picture

Elevation & Windage Turret

The elevation turret features a push-pull locking mechanism with zero reset capability, allowing for precise adjustments and secure settings. The windage turret is capped to protect against accidental changes and ensure durability.

1-6x Magnification Range

Providing true 1x magnification at the lowest setting, the Warhorse LPVO offers a versatile 1-6x magnification range. This flexibility allows for both close-range engagements and longer-distance shooting.

0.25 MOA or 0.1 MIL Turret Click Values

The turrets provide precise adjustments with click values of 0.25 MOA or 0.1 MIL, catering to different preference for precision and accuracy in adjustments. In this review will be looking at the MIL model.

Throw Lever & Flip Caps

For added convenience, the optic comes with a throw lever for quick magnification changes and flip caps to protect the lenses from debris and scratches, enhancing the overall functionality and durability of the Warhorse LPVO.

Design and Build Quality

The Swampfox Warhorse LPVO stands out with its impressive design and build quality. Crafted predominantly from metal, this optic has a strong and durable feel, setting it apart from cheaper alternatives.

The glass is very clear, enhancing your shooting experience by providing an unobstructed view. The reticle switch operates with a firm, audible click. Adjustment covers are made of metal, and the threads are smooth and not gritty, ensuring ease of use and durability.

The Warhorse LPVO features a 34mm tube, which is bulkier than the more common 30mm tubes. This size trade-off offers increased structural integrity and adjustability. The design is sleek and aesthetically pleasing, with the black-on-black Warhorse logo on the side providing a subtle yet effective touch of branding. The Swampfox logos on the lens covers complement the optic’s design.

Overall, the Swampfox Warhorse LPVO impresses with its solid build quality and design. The attention to detail and use of high-quality materials make it a standout choice in its price range, offering both durability and style.

Installation and Setup

Installing the Swampfox Warhorse LPVO is straightforward, we used two different mounts to evaluate its versatility and performance. But more so wanting to test a mount for an upcoming article.

Mount Options

First, we used the Swampfox Freedom Mount. This mount is lightweight and sleek, helping reduce the bulkiness feel while providing a secure fit. The clamp tighten firmly onto the rail, ensuring that the mount stays in place without loosening over time.

For our second test, we employed the American Defense MFG QD (Quick Detach) mount. This was to assess how well a QD mount holds zero when frequently attached and detached from the rifle in an upcoming article.

Installation Process

We started by applying a small amount of grease to the rail where the mount would sit. This step helps to reduce friction and ensures a true, secure clamp on the rail. After applying the grease, we torqued down the Freedom Mount and leveled the firearm and mount.

Next, we placed the optic onto the mount and leveled it with the firearm. To ensure proper alignment, we used a plumb bob to align the reticle to ensure it’s square. After aligning, we torqued the Warhorse rings securely.

With the mount installed and the optic properly aligned, we were ready to hit the range. But first I installed the included throttle lever and dust covers to the lens. The installation process was smooth, and the Warhorse LPVO was firmly secured and ready for action.

Performance and Accuracy

Now for the fun stuff. First I had mounted the Swampfox Warhorse LPVO to my BRN-180. I zeroed the optic at 100 yards, and the mil adjustments proved extremely precise, adhering to the 0.1 mil click values. This is super important to me as if you need to make quick adjustments those figures need to be dead on.

For close-quarters and quick target acquisition, the 1x magnification setting delivered an awesome field of view. The reticle for quick acquisitions works great especially with the reticle illuminated, without the illumination it could be a bit more prominent. The illumination function performed flawlessly with no malfunctions or issues.

Transitioning to longer-range shooting, we pushed the Warhorse LPVO to around 200-300 yards on 6x magnification. While 300 yards + can be a feat for 6x, the optic managed it well, with the lens providing a clear and crisp image. The zero remained solid throughout, and the magnification adjustments were smooth and effortless, thanks to the throw lever.

Overall, the Swampfox Warhorse LPVO has proven to be a reliable and versatile optic, excelling in both close-range and longer-distance shooting. One thing I do wish was that it had more magnification options such at 1-8x or 1-10x. Really think it would shine.

The ergonomics of the Warhorse LPVO are good but not perfect. The throw lever facilitates easy magnification changes, and the controls are generally intuitive. However, it can be seen as bulky to some being a 34mm but I’ll take the trade off for performance over the slight bulk.

For its price, the Warhorse LPVO offers excellent value. It combines durability, versatility, and a range of high-quality features at a competitive price point. The optic delivers performance that justifies its cost.
